'How Deep is the Crime?'

Crime is something that the whole world is embattling. The cause of this social phenomenon is still arguable, and whoever's fault is it for its rise is relative. One thing is for sure, however. It isn't doing anyone good. And it becomes a source of fear among locales and tourists alike.

This is the concern of one thread starter here--crime in Peru. How exactly deep is this aspect of Peruvian society and what does the Peruvian government do to curb it? How can you avoid it? Other members of the forum talk about their view.
